Modern Film: Leadership Case Analysis of "Master and Commander"
Film: Master and Commander
Task: After watching the film, write a 5 - 7 page (double-spaced, typed, stapled) analysis paper that both Observes and Evaluates the Leadership in the storyline.
Tip 1: You may look at leadership effectiveness (i.e., good vs. bad, high quality vs. poor quality). You may look at leadership ethics (i.e., right vs. wrong, unethical vs. ethical, moral vs. amoral vs. immoral). You might examine leadership style as it impacts effectiveness and/or ethics.
Tip 2: Be sure you support your claims with information (observation data) from the film's script/action.
Due: No later than the last class period of the semester (in the instructor's box).
Point value: up to 50 points.
Parliamentary Procedure Assignment
Task: Given at least two visitations with a regular meeting in an organization/group of your choice, (1) make specific observations about the group's use, non-use, or misuse of Parliamentary Procedure these constitute your Field Notes), and (2) write a critical/evaluative paper which examines the effectiveness of their conduct of meetings.
Format: Typed, double-spaced, stapled; between 5-7 pages; include the Field Notes at the end of the paper as an appendix.
Tips: Include a physical diagram of the meeting space and speakers, if possible. Be as specific and concrete as possible in the observational stage.
Due date: No later than the last class meeting for the semester.
Point value: up to 50 points (for high-quality work).
